Shared Dining with a Soulful Touch in Maastricht

Score: 7.4

Sometimes you come across a restaurant on Instagram and just know — you have to go. That’s how my culinary adventure at Branson began: a warm and stylish spot with a promising online presence. The photos hinted at a night full of gastronomic delight, and I was more than ready to put that to the test.

Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and guided to a beautiful window table. The service was attentive, and our drinks arrived in no time — a great start to the evening.

We began with a tasting of oysters — or at least, that was the plan. Due to a small mix-up, we were initially served the traditional version, but this was quickly corrected. Thankfully so, because the oysters were outstanding! The one with champagne foam and chili was an unexpectedly delicious combination, while the Asian-inspired version was equally impressive.

One small downside: the tasting menu had to be ordered per table, which didn’t suit our group’s preferences. So we opted for à la carte — and honestly, we didn’t regret it. The shared starters offered a wide range of flavours and textures. We went with the lobster roll, tuna tataki, gambas al ajillo, and calamari — all perfectly cooked, packed with flavour, and beautifully presented.

For the main course, we shared an impressive 800-gram Côte à l’os, served with chimichurri, a rich jus, and sea salt. The meat was incredibly tender, cooked to perfection — a true treat for anyone who appreciates a great cut of beef.

Dessert was the festive finale of the evening. The youngest at our table chose a dame blanche and called it “the best ever” — that says it all. The crumble of cookie and white chocolate added a delightful twist to this classic. We finished with coffee and friandises — the perfect end to a wonderful evening.

While it would be nice if the tasting menu were available per person instead of per table, that detail doesn’t take away from the quality of the food and the experience. Branson is without a doubt a must-visit for anyone who enjoys refined flavours and a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere. An evening to remember — and one we’ll be talking about for a long time.
